Quranic Inferences: Rights of People:


Rights in the light of Quran

  • Every descendant of Adam; white, black, rich, poor, male, female, Arab or non-Arab are equal and respectable.
  • Every descendant of Adam, from any background, race or religion, has the worth of life as equal.
  • As human-beings all the people are equal with respect to rights.
  • Every man has right to have privacy with regard to personal life, family life and family matters.
  • No older to younger, nor strong to weak, has any right to treat them in inhumane way or torture or mock them.
  • Everyone has a right to choose his faith and act on it.
  • Every man has the right to live with honour and dignity.
  • Every man has the right to worship God and ask for his help.
  • No man can enslave another man, nor a group can enslave another group, freedom is a very fundamental right of an individual or a community.
  • Every man has the right to raise voice against any injustice done to him.
  • It is a fundamental right of every man to demand justice if need be.
  • Everyone has right to struggle for legitimate earning.

Rights of the parents

  • It is instructed to treat the parents kindly.
  • In the old age, parents should not be scolded, nor even raised voice to.
  • It is ordained to talk to parents politely, keeping in mind their status.
  • For the whole life one should live as a blessing to parents, and also pray to God to shower his blessings on them.
  • Parents should not be obeyed if they instruct to do something like a sinful act or ask their descendant to leave the fundamentals of faith.

Rights of the children

  • To nurture and train the children is the responsibility of parents.
  • Parents who do not address the aspects of religious up-bringing of the children will be in grave deficit on the very day of judgement.
  • Abortion after conception of a child is a major sin.

Rights of women

  • Men and women have equivalent rights.
  • All men and women are the descendants of the same father Adam and mother Ewa, so all of them are equal in the sight of God.
  • The life of a woman is as valuable as that of man.
  • In a Muslim society, women are equally respectable as men.
  • The way husband deserves that his secrets be kept, the wife also deserves that her secrets be kept.
  • Thinking of women to be inferior and a cause of shame is a major sin.
  • Islamic law has determined the rights of wife and husband according to their responsibilities, in general men and women.

Religious rights of women

  • To gain the reward of good deeds men and women share equal rights.
  •  Men do not get more reward nor do women get less reward for the good deeds they perform.
  • Reward is not enhanced for men, nor is it lowered for women on the basis of gender.
  • For the pious men and women who abide by the religious limits and do good, there is great reward in the hereafter.
  • It is important that both men and women forbid form evil deeds and encourage on good deeds.
  • There is equal reward for men and women for forbidding form evil and encouraging on piety.
  • Women share equal rights of prayers and supplications as men do.
  • If women adopt infidelity or hypocrisy, the punishment for them would be the same as that for men.

Financial rights of women

  • Husband has to pay the agreed amount of money to the wife on or after the day of marriage, while the agreement of the relationship is signed.
  • If the woman withdraws from the set amount for marriage, the man is waived of it and it is no more a binding on him.
  • Women can give in charity from their wealth themselves.
  • It is the responsibility of husband to provide for the basic needs of wife after marriage.
  • Before marriage it is the responsibility of father to provide for the woman.
  • Women share legitimate part in the inheritance left by parents or other close relatives just as men do, in a different ratio though.
  • Sister has half share in the inheritance as compared to brother.
  • If there is only one daughter, she will get half of inheritance.
  • If there is no brother and only sisters, they will get two third of inheritance.
  • The parents of deceased will get one sixth separately.
  • If the deceased does not have siblings or descendants, the mother will get one third and father two third of the wealth left behind.
  • If the deceased does not have descendants, the mother will get one sixth and father will get five sixth, in case there are no siblings.
  • If the deceased has descendants, the widow will get one fourth and if there are descendants then one eighth.
  • With regard to the one with no parents and kids, in case of deceased with siblings, brothers and sisters will get one sixth equally.
  • If the deceased has more than one sibling, they will get equal share out of one third.
  • If there are siblings, no children or parents,
  1. If there is only one brother, the whole wealth goes to him.
  2. If there is only one sister, she will get half of whole wealth.
  3. If sisters are more than one, they will get two third of inheritance.
  4. If there is brother as well as sister then brother will get two parts and the sister will get one.

Social rights of women

  • Treating mothers with kindness is a sign of good fate.
  • In the old age it is not even allowed to raise voice to mother or father.
  • One should be very humble while talking to mother or father.
  • Parents should be treated kindly and should be prayed for.
  • If Parents instruct something sinful, especially like putting partners with God, they must not be obeyed.
  • The sacrifices of mothers are high in giving birth and raising children, so one should remain more thankful to mother than to father.
